Nuri Artwork - The Journey in Words

Iffat Khan

From a very young age, I’ve had a keen interest in art, nature and all things artistic. Things that usually went unnoticed would often catch my gaze. With a busy lifestyle where everyone’s stuck in their own world, it’s easy to miss the beautiful colours of the lustrous sky or the architectural beauty of a building we might be accustomed to seeing on a daily basis. I’ve always been someone who sees beyond what is apparent, thinks deeper than what is required at most times, feels intensely and doodles a lot.

This wonderful combination led me to taking a close look at Islamic Art. As I gained a better understanding of my religion, I fell in love with the rich Islamic art and architecture that has existed in Islamic civilisations for centuries. I just connected.

In my spare time, I started practising Arabic and English calligraphy and found it extremely therapeutic, although it did require a high level of perseverance and patience (that I didn’t have at times). To assist me on my journey, I purchased a number of materials on Islamic art and calligraphy and partook in short courses both in-person and online (art is never learned overnight or practised for a short while and I am still looking for ways to improve and develop). This led me to producing some pieces of artwork on canvas for family and friends. I then further developed my hobby and donated artwork for local charities as well as national and international causes.

Through the encouragement of loved ones, I decided to give my ‘work’ a name in 2011 and this is where Nuri Artwork came from. I began selling canvases via a Facebook page and was overwhelmed with the positive responses from awesome people like you.

I continued to sell my artwork slowly and steadily via Facebook for some years (although, admittedly I rarely updated the page or got back to customers – sorry if you were one of them!) I did, however, continue to donate artwork for charity fundraisers and set up stalls at local events. The constant feedback given from the public was the need for an online gallery where they could view the different pieces of artwork in order to decide the one they wanted to purchase.

I had also been considering the need for a website but didn’t want Nuri Artwork to merely be another online business selling common Islamic art. I wanted Nuri Artwork to be unique; ‘soul’ art where each piece of artwork connects to your inner being and every mural has a story to tell of its own… and we hope to just achieve that.

So… here we are, finally, live with the website. Please have a browse through, purchase what you fancy, enjoy the discount codes and share with your family and friends.

Thank you for reading my first super-long blog entry. :)

Your suggestions and comments are most welcome.
